The Franklin Institute is a world-famous learning
center and science museum. It was named to commemorate Benjamin
Franklin, scientist, inventor, printer, humanist and statesman.
The basic construction of the existing roof on the Franklin Institute
was a lightweight concrete deck system over a four-ply coal-tar
pitch membrane on a concrete deck.
A paver quarry tile system that was used for promenade and deck
was installed over the lightweight ash concrete.
ARMM's focus was to remove the promenade and deck areas and to install
a membrane system that would support and receive pavers to allow
continuing walkway traffic over the roof areas.
Reroofing the Franklin Institute was a major challenge involving
complex construction, coordination of all construction parties and
the quality of the roofing contractor.
